Poole is part of BCP Council. Most houses can have an air source heat pump and roof-mounted solar panels under permitted development.
Poole Old Town is a conservation area. In a conservation area, a heat pump can't go on a wall or roof that faces a road, and solar panels can't go on a wall, balcony or roof enclosure that faces a road. Flats have more limited rights, so we'll check what applies to your property.
Adding a battery to existing solar
If you already have solar panels, a battery lets you store the electricity you currently export and use it in the evening. Since 1 February 2024, batteries added to an existing system are zero-rated for VAT too, until 31 March 2027.

Do heat pumps work near the sea?
Yes. Air source heat pumps work well in coastal homes. Salt air can corrode outdoor coils and fixings over time, so we think carefully about where the outdoor unit goes and recommend annual servicing.
Can you add a battery to my existing solar panels?
Usually, yes. We check your existing inverter and system, then recommend either a battery with its own inverter (AC-coupled) or a hybrid inverter. Home batteries are zero-rated for VAT until 31 March 2027.
