    Air Conditioning Installation

    Air Conditioning

Air conditioning is no longer a luxury in the UK. With warmer summers, more people working from home and buildings becoming better insulated, many rooms now overheat for much of the year. Modern air conditioning systems are air-to-air heat pumps, so as well as cooling in summer they provide highly efficient heating in winter. Solwat designs and installs quiet, energy-efficient air conditioning for homes and businesses, sized correctly for each space and installed by F-Gas registered engineers.

    Benefits of Air Conditioning

    Year-Round Comfort

Modern air conditioning keeps rooms cool in summer and, with heat pump technology, provides efficient heating in winter.

    Highly Efficient

Inverter-driven systems can deliver over 3kW of heat or cooling for every 1kW of electricity used.

    Pairs with Solar Panels

Run your air conditioning on free electricity generated by your solar panels on sunny days, when you need cooling most.

    Cleaner, Healthier Air

Built-in filters reduce dust, pollen and allergens, while dehumidifying helps prevent damp and condensation.

    Quiet & Discreet

Slimline indoor units and whisper-quiet operation, with smart app and timer control.

    Our Services

    Types of Air Conditioning Systems

We install single-split systems for individual rooms, multi-split systems that run several indoor units from one outdoor unit, and ducted or ceiling cassette systems for larger and commercial spaces. Our team works with leading manufacturers to recommend the right system for your property, comfort needs and budget.

Air Conditioning Costs, Savings & Performance

The cost of air conditioning depends on the number of rooms, the type of indoor units and the length of pipework required. Thanks to inverter technology, running costs are low, and pairing your system with solar panels and battery storage can cut them even further. Using air conditioning for heating can also reduce reliance on gas or expensive electric heaters.

    How air conditioning works

Air conditioning moves heat rather than creating it, which is why it is so efficient. It runs on electricity, so it works perfectly alongsidesolar panels, using free energy on the sunniest days.

    1. 1

      Outdoor unit

A compact outdoor unit houses the compressor, which moves heat between inside and outside your home.

    2. 2

      Refrigerant pipework

Insulated pipes carry refrigerant between the outdoor and indoor units through a small hole in the wall.

    3. 3

      Indoor unit

Wall, ceiling or floor-mounted units blow cooled or warmed air into the room, quietly and evenly.

    4. 4

      Smart controls

Set temperatures, schedules and modes for each room by remote, wall controller or smartphone app.

    Is my property suitable?

Air conditioning works best where a few conditions are met. We check each of these during a free survey:

    • Space on an outside wall, flat roof or ground for the outdoor unit
    • A suitable wall or ceiling position for each indoor unit
    • Rooms that overheat in summer – loft conversions, conservatories, home offices and bedrooms
    • Commercial spaces such as offices, shops and server rooms needing reliable climate control

If you're looking to replace a boiler and heat your hot water too, an air-to-water heat pump may be a better fit – we'll give you an honest recommendation either way.

    Air Conditioning FAQs

Can air conditioning heat my home too?

Yes. Most modern systems are air-to-air heat pumps, so they can heat as well as cool – often more efficiently than electric heaters.

Is air conditioning expensive to run?

Modern inverter units are very efficient. Running costs depend on usage and room size, and can be reduced further by pairing with solar panels and battery storage.

    Do I need planning permission?

Most domestic installations fall under permitted development, provided the outdoor unit meets size, position and noise limits. We'll check this during the survey.

    How long does installation take?

A single-room split system is usually installed in one day. Multi-room systems typically take two to three days.

Why does my installer need to be F-Gas registered?

Air conditioning uses refrigerant gases, and UK law requires anyone handling them to be F-Gas certified. Our engineers are on the F-Gas Register.

How often should air conditioning be serviced?

We recommend an annual service to clean filters and coils, check refrigerant levels and keep the system running efficiently.
